Vivo Launches Affordable New Phone: Specs & Price

Vivo Launches Affordable New Phone: Specs & Price

February 25, 2026 Lisa Park - Tech Editor Tech

Vivo has expanded its Y-series smartphone lineup with the launch of the Y05, a new 4G device targeted at the entry-level market. The phone, currently available in select markets including the Middle East and Malaysia, emphasizes practicality with a focus on long battery life and a surprisingly rare feature for this price point: an integrated infrared (IR) blaster.

The Vivo Y05 retails for approximately $102 USD (399 RM in Malaysia as of February 25, 2026), positioning it as a competitive option for budget-conscious consumers. The inclusion of an IR blaster allows the Y05 to function as a universal remote, controlling devices like televisions and air conditioners – a feature increasingly absent from modern smartphones.

Display and Performance

The Y05 features a 6.74-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels (260 ppi). Notably, the display boasts a 120Hz refresh rate, a feature typically found in higher-end devices, contributing to smoother scrolling and animations. Peak brightness reaches 1200 nits, improving visibility in outdoor conditions.

Powering the device is the Unisoc T7225 12nm chipset. This processor comprises a dual-core Cortex A75 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz and a hexa-core Cortex A55 processor, also clocked at 1.8 GHz. Vivo has paired the chipset with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card slot. While not a high-performance processor, the Unisoc T7225 is designed for efficiency, aiming to provide adequate performance for everyday tasks.

Camera and Battery

The Y05 includes an 8-megapixel rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The second cutout on the rear camera module houses the IR blaster. For selfies, the phone features a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

A key selling point of the Y05 is its substantial 6,500mAh battery. This large capacity is designed to provide extended battery life, catering to users who prioritize longevity between charges. The phone runs on Android 16 with Vivo’s OriginOS 6, offering a modern software experience with updated features and improved security.

Y500 Pro: A Step Up in the Vivo Lineup

While the Y05 targets the ultra-budget segment, Vivo also recently launched the Y500 Pro, a mid-range device positioned as offering “flagship-grade” specs at a more affordable price. Launched in China on November 10, 2025, the Y500 Pro starts at approximately $253 (CNY 1,799).

The Y500 Pro boasts a 200 MP Samsung HP5 primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside a 2 MP depth sensor. It also features a 32 MP front-facing camera. The device sports a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1260×2800 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits of brightness. The display has a remarkably thin bezel thickness of 1.37 mm.

Under the hood, the Y500 Pro is powered by the Dimensity 7400 mid-range SoC, paired with up to 12 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 2.2 storage. It also includes a large 7,000 mAh battery and supports 90W fast charging. The Y500 Pro also features an IP68/69 ingress rating for dust and water resistance, and, like the Y05, includes an IR remote control sensor.

Positioning and Market Strategy

Vivo’s strategy with both the Y05 and Y500 Pro demonstrates a commitment to offering a range of options across different price points. The Y05, launched roughly a year after the Y04 in February 2025, focuses on essential functionality and affordability. The Y500 Pro, meanwhile, aims to disrupt the mid-range market by delivering features typically found in more expensive flagship devices.

The Y500 Pro’s design echoes that of Vivo’s flagship X300 series, particularly with its round camera island. The base configuration of the Y500 Pro costs CNY 1,799 (around $253), while the top-end configuration costs CNY 2,599 (around $365).

Both devices highlight Vivo’s focus on providing practical features and dependable performance, catering to a broad spectrum of consumers seeking value and versatility in their smartphones.
