February 25, 2026 Lisa Park - Tech Editor Tech

Vivo has launched the Y05, a new entry-level 4G smartphone aimed at budget-conscious consumers. Announced on February 24, 2026, the Y05 focuses on delivering essential features with an emphasis on battery life and durability. The device is currently available in Malaysia for RM 399 (approximately $102) and Saudi Arabia for $109, in Black and Blue color options.

Display and Design

The Y05 features a 6.74-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1600 x 720 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 260 ppi. Notably, the display supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, a feature typically found in higher-end smartphones, offering smoother scrolling and animations. Vivo states the display can achieve a peak brightness of 1,200 nits and covers 83% of the NTSC color space. The phone measures 167.40 x 77.10 x 8.39 mm and weighs 209g. It also boasts an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance.

Performance and Storage

Under the hood, the Y05 is powered by the Unisoc T7225 chipset, a 12nm processor featuring two Cortex A75 cores clocked up to 1.8 GHz and six Cortex A55 cores also clocked at 1.8 GHz. This represents paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. Storage can be expanded via a microSD card slot, supporting cards up to 2TB in capacity. The phone also supports an additional 4GB of extended RAM, utilizing storage to enhance multitasking performance.

Battery and Charging

A key selling point of the Y05 is its large 6,500mAh battery. Vivo claims this capacity will provide extended usage times, catering to users who prioritize long battery life. The device supports 15W charging, allowing for relatively quick replenishment of the battery.

Camera and Connectivity

The Y05 features a modest camera setup. On the rear, there’s an 8-megapixel sensor with an f/2.0 aperture and a rear flash. Interestingly, the second camera cutout houses an infrared (IR) blaster, allowing the phone to function as a universal remote control for compatible devices. The front-facing camera is a 5-megapixel sensor with an f/2.2 aperture.

Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support, Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-C, and an infrared blaster. The device also includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication and an RGB notification light.

Software

The Vivo Y05 runs OriginOS 6.0, based on Android 16. This provides users with the latest Android features and Vivo’s custom user interface, which includes various optimizations and enhancements.

Market Positioning and Competition

The Vivo Y05 is positioned as an entry-level smartphone, competing with other budget-friendly devices in the sub-$150 price range. Its combination of a large battery, 120Hz display, and expandable storage makes it a compelling option for users seeking a reliable and affordable smartphone. The inclusion of an IR blaster is a unique feature that sets it apart from some competitors. While the Unisoc T7225 chipset isn’t a powerhouse, it’s sufficient for basic tasks and everyday use.

For consumers in the US looking for a similar device in the same price bracket, the Motorola Moto G Play is presented as a potential alternative.
