The 2023 Vogue Business Talent Competition has announced its winners, recognizing outstanding emerging talent in fashion and beauty business journalism.The annual competition aims to amplify the voices of aspiring writers by providing a platform on Vogue Business and offering valuable mentorship opportunities.
harris takes Top Honours with AI and Fashion Merchandising Insight
This year’s competition winner, Harris, a 26-year-old MA student at University College London (UCL), will receive a six-week paid internship at Vogue Business. She will also benefit from six months of mentorship from Kotsoni, who will edit her winning article for publication on Vogue Business. Harris’s winning piece delves into the impact of AI and algorithms on fashion merchandising, a topic that deeply impressed the judging panel.
The judges lauded Harris’s sophisticated writing style, her astute understanding of strategies relevant to business leaders, and the compelling angle of her topic, which perfectly aligns with the Vogue Business audience.

Runners-up Ajala and Lu Honoured for West African fashion and Geopolitics in Fashion
The two runners-up, Ajala and Lu, will each receive six months of mentorship from a Vogue Business editor. Ajala,a 19-year-old student from the university of Surrey,impressed the judges with her detailed research on the rise of West African fashion brands. Lu,a 22-year-old student at the London College of Fashion,was recognized for her engaging writing on how geopolitics shape perceptions of ‘Made in China’ within the fashion industry.
“Being named a runner-up in the Vogue Business Talent Competition has been an eye-opening experience,” said Ajala. “I’m deeply grateful for the recognition and excited to build on this momentum.It’s affirmed my belief in the kind of stories I want to tell as well as the spaces I want to tell them in.”
Lu added, “This was a great experience, and it has broadened my interest and appreciation for writing.”
