The ID. Buzz continues to serve as an important halo product for the Volkswagen brand, and safeguarding its market presence remains a top priority. Following a careful assessment of current EV market conditions, we have made the strategic decision not to move forward with MY26 ID. Buzz production for the U.S. Market.

Supply and Demand Logistics
Gruner attributed the gap in model years to a combination of supply and demand dynamics and a desire for complexity reduction. He stated that the company evaluated whether it was worth launching the 2026 model year and decided to move directly to 2027 instead.
A Volkswagen spokesperson further clarified that the 2025 model year arrived late to the market. This timing meant that if the company had proceeded with a 2026 model year, it would have had a significantly short production run.
Despite the absence of a 2026 model designation, Gruner assured the media that there would not be a gap in dealer inventory. He noted that there’s a consistent offer in the market
to counter rumors of a production pause.
2027 Production Timeline
The company has confirmed that production for the 2027 ID. Buzz is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2027. Deliveries to customers are expected to reach the market by early fall of that year.

Gruner emphasized the long-term availability of the vehicle, stating that there’s always going to be a Buzz out there
.
Potential Model Expansion
As part of the future strategy for the ID. Buzz, Volkswagen is considering the introduction of a camping version of the electric vehicle. This potential expansion aligns with the vehicle’s role as a halo product for the brand in the U.S. Market.
