updated June 12, 2025
Marlen Reusser secured a thrilling victory on Stage 1 of the Tour of Switzerland Women, out-sprinting Demi Vollering after a collaborative breakaway. The decisive move, a key moment in this cycling news event, began with Reusser’s attack on the descent from the Jaunpass. Vollering quickly joined her, initiating a powerful two-rider effort.
The pair worked together effectively over the last 57 kilometers, creating an insurmountable gap between themselves and the rest of the field. Reusser’s triumph in her home country adds a special significance to this stage win, marking a highlight in her career.
Vollering acknowledged Reusser’s strength and tactical acumen. Despite not feeling her best due to the heat, Vollering pushed Reusser to the limit, contributing to an exciting finish. The Tour of Switzerland Women continues to deliver thrilling racing action.
“She attacked in the descent just when I had a bottle in my hand,so I did not react directly…I jumped after her because if you give Marlen too much space, you will not see her back… We worked pretty well together and it was nice, we did exactly the same work,” Vollering said.
Reusser explained her team’s strategy, emphasizing the importance of exploiting the Jaunpass climb. The goal was to create small groups and capitalize on the disorganization within the peloton, a tactic that proved successful in securing the stage victory and generating significant Tour of Switzerland Women coverage.
“We knew that the two climbs, especially the Jaunpass, would be selective in this heat… if we race hard, it will be hard for the dropped riders to get back on as it’s simply so plucked apart after such a hard climb. And it worked out,” Reusser said.
What’s next
The Tour of Switzerland Women continues with challenging stages ahead, promising more exciting battles among the top contenders. All eyes will be on weather Vollering can overcome her stomach issues and challenge Reusser again.
