Ukraine to Allocate €60 Billion of EU Loan to Military Spending
Ukraine will receive €60 billion from a €90 billion loan provided by the European Union to bolster it’s military capabilities in 2026 and 2027, according to a statement made on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, by European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen.
Details of the EU Loan
The €90 billion loan, approved in December 2025, is intended to support Ukraine’s economy and reconstruction. Von der Leyen specified that priority will be given to European companies when fulfilling Ukraine’s weapons needs through this funding mechanism.
“With 60 billion euros in military aid, Ukraine can hold its own against Russia and, simultaneously occurring, integrate more closely into the European defense industrial base,”
said von der Leyen.
This allocation aims to strengthen Ukraine’s defense against ongoing Russian aggression while simultaneously fostering closer ties with the European defense industry.
