Knoxville native JP Peace, a linebacker prospect and grandson of former Tennessee Volunteers coach Phillip Fulmer, has committed to Tennessee. Peace is the first commitment for the Vols’ 2027 class, adding to the program’s football role.
The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Peace from Knoxville West High School, received a scholarship offer from Tennessee in May. He also had offers from Florida state, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt. he announced his decision via social media.
Robert Peace, JP’s father and a former Vols linebacker under Fulmer, said Tennessee was the obvious choice. “We encouraged him to visit other places, and he did.But Tennessee was the place for him, and not just as of the family legacy here,” Peace said.
Fulmer, JP’s grandfather, coached Tennessee from 1992-2008, winning a national title in 1998. He also served as the school’s athletic director from 2017-21.
The younger Peace, soon to be a third-generation Vol, grew up around the Tennessee football program. “He’s obviously spent a lot more time around the program than most kids have,” his father said.
Before focusing on football, Peace was a standout baseball player. He joined the Knoxville West football team in 2023. After his sophomore season, Power 4 offers came quickly.he visited Clemson, Florida State, north Carolina, and others before committing to tennessee.
His father said the commitment was due to family ties and his relationship with Vols’ inside linebackers coach William Inge. “He’s very high on coach William Inge,” the elder Peace said. “He’s done a great job recruiting JP, and we believe he’s not only going to make him a better player, but a better person for after football. So that had a big impact on this decision.”
Peace cannot officially sign with Tennessee untill December 2026.
What’s next
Peace will continue his high school career, developing his skills before joining the Volunteers in 2027. The Tennessee coaching staff aims to build a strong recruiting class around this early commitment, solidifying their football role in the SEC.
