Volvo, owned by Chinese company Geely, has launched the new Volvo XC70 PHEV in the chinese market. The vehicle is available at a significantly lower price than previously announced, initially under 270,000 yuan (approximately 32,000 euros) for a limited time.

The XC70 is a mid-size hybrid SUV featuring Scandinavian design.It offers a two-wheel drive configuration and an electric range of up to 116 km. The total range exceeds 1,200 kilometers.

Four variants are available, including an all-wheel drive version with an extended electric range of up to 212 km (CLTC cycle).

Price Comparison: Initial Expectations vs. Reality

Initial reports indicated a starting price of around €43,000 for the XC70. However, the current limited-time offer presents a more favorable price point. After the promotional period, the base version is expected to cost nearly €50,000, with better-equipped all-wheel drive variants ranging from €53,500 to €59,500.

Technical Specifications and Powertrain

The powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with direct fuel injection, producing 120 kW (161 hp) and 255 Nm of torque. It’s coupled with three electric motors:

• P1 (60 kW): Power generation and engine start.
• P2 (107 kW): Front-wheel drive in electric mode.
• P4 (156 kW): Rear-wheel drive, providing all-wheel drive when needed.

This configuration enables automatic switching between seven different driving modes, adapting to road conditions and driver preferences.

The XC70 features a three-stage DHT transmission, which can connect the gasoline engine to the wheels at speeds as low as 20 km/h (compared to 60 km/h in previous systems). This results in smoother transitions and improved fuel efficiency.
