The government ⁤of⁢ Chubut, Argentina, has extended its respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccination campaign for pregnant women until October 31, 2024, according to an proclamation from the⁣ Ministry of Health. This extension aims to maximize immunization rates among pregnant individuals, aligning with recommendations ‍from the Ministry of Health of the‍ Nation.

As of August 31, 2024, 2,292‍ doses of⁢ the⁤ RSV vaccine had been administered throughout the province.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

Secretary of Health Denise Acosta ‍emphasized that the vaccine is free of charge and does not require a medical prescription. Pregnant women in their eighth month of gestation are particularly encouraged to get vaccinated to protect their babies from RSV infection from birth to six months of age.

RSV is the leading cause of bronchiolitis,⁢ pneumonia, and other acute respiratory infections in young⁢ children, placing a significant burden on the healthcare system during winter months.
