Stage 12 of the Vuelta a españa features important climbing challenges, setting the stage for potential battles among the general classification (GC) contenders.
Stage Details
The stage is characterized by two major climbs positioned relatively far apart. The Puerto de Alisas, a second-category climb, appears early in the race, approximately 41 kilometers into the stage. Following a period of flat and undulating terrain, riders will face the more demanding Collada de Brenes, a first-category climb, 74 kilometers later.
The Collada de Brenes is 7 kilometers long with an average gradient of eight percent. A descent and relatively flat run-in to the finish line offer a chance for riders to regroup, but substantial time gaps established on the climb could prove decisive.
Race Director’s Viewpoint
Race Director Fernando Escartín anticipates a fast and dynamic stage in Cantabria. He stated that the ascent to Alisas could encourage breakaway attempts, while the challenging climb to Collada de Brenes will likely be the key point of contention for the overall contenders. “The favorite riders will have to make sure to not fall behind in the summit as the final stretch before the finish-line will be very fast,” Escartín explained.
