Volkswagen Unveils the ID.3 GTI
The electric hot hatch is slated to hit showrooms during the first quarter of 2027.
It packs 326 horsepower and rear-wheel drive. This makes it the most powerful series-production GTI in the brand’s five-decade history, matching the output of the outgoing GTX Performance model while shifting the nameplate into Volkswagen’s electric era. The model utilizes the APP550 drive system, pairing a permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle with a two-stage single-speed gearbox.
Power, Battery Specs and Range
Acceleration from zero to 100 kilometers per hour takes 5.6 seconds using an active launch control function. The top speed is electronically capped at 200 kilometers per hour, and torque reaches 545 Newton-meters.

Energy is stored in a net 79-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The system supports direct-current fast charging at up to 183 kilowatts, allowing a ten to eighty percent charge in approximately 29 minutes, alongside 11 kilowatts of alternating-current charging capability. Volkswagen projects a preliminary WLTP driving range of up to 601 kilometers, though these figures remain subject to final homologation.
Sharpened Chassis and Aggressive Stance
Built upon the foundational updates of the ID.3 Neo, the GTI variant incorporates matrix-LED headlights connected by an illuminated red strip, vertical LED daytime running lights, a front splitter, and a honeycomb lower bumper with red aerodynamic accents. The car rides on 20-inch Wörthersee alloy wheels wrapped in standard 225-millimeter tires, with optional 235-millimeter tires available.

Underneath, the chassis features standard adaptive DCC sport suspension with a unique GTI calibration, pairing a MacPherson front axle with a five-link rear layout. The front elastokinematics, springs, dampers, and stabilizers have been specifically modified to increase agility compared to standard ID.3 variants.
Cabin Design and Expected Market Cost
Inside the cabin, the model adopts sports seats featuring an abstracted large-scale check pattern inspired by the traditional Clark plaid. A red dashboard accent strip and a newly integrated GTI button sit beneath the steering wheel. Pressing this button shifts the ambient lighting to red, activates a dedicated GTI display layout on the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and arms the launch control system.
While official pricing has not been formally finalized by Volkswagen, the compact electric sports car is expected to carry a price tag of around 50,000 euros when it reaches the market in early 2027.
