W Hotels announced the official opening of W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu on April 30, 2026. The debut follows a preview period in 2025 and represents a strategic expansion of the brand’s presence within Italy, joining the existing W Rome and W Florence properties.
The resort is situated on the northeast coast of Sardinia, positioned between Baia Sardinia and Porto Cervo. The property overlooks the Marina dell’Orso in the village of Poltu Quatu, a name that translates to hidden port
in the island’s ancient language.
Architectural Design and Aesthetic
The resort’s physical structure is integrated into a natural fjord, with whitewashed architecture that cascades across granite cliffs sculpted by the wind. The development is framed by crystal-clear water and a Mediterranean landscape.

The design of the hotel was led by the multi-disciplinary studio Meyer Davis, the same creative firm responsible for W Rome. The architectural work was handled by DE.TALES. According to brand descriptions, the design incorporates pastel natural colors alongside handcrafted stone and wood elements.
This aesthetic approach was intended to reimagine the rich history of the island through a modern and bold lens, blending local inspiration with the brand’s design-driven perspective.
Guest Accommodations and Amenities
W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu features 157 guestrooms and suites, which the brand describes as immersive retreats. The hotel’s social and leisure infrastructure is centered around several destination-driven spaces:
- TANIT, a seafood restaurant located on the marina front.
- A signature W Lounge.
- The WET Deck, a poolside area.
- AWAY Spa.
- FIT, the brand’s designated fitness center.
- A beach club that is accessible exclusively by boat.
The property is located opposite the La Maddalena archipelago on the island’s northeast emerald coastline, providing a collection of fitness, shopping, and dining experiences for international and local visitors.
Strategic Brand Expansion
The opening is part of a broader effort by W Hotels, which is part of the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio of more than 30 hotel brands, to deepen its footprint in the Italian market. The brand has focused on locations with significant cultural and design influence.
The opening of W Sardinia – Poltu Quatu marks an important milestone for W Hotels as we debut on the island of Sardinia and continue to deepen our presence across Italy. Italy’s cultural influence is unmatched – from design and cuisine to music and fashion – and Sardinia brings a distinct rhythm all its own.
George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, W Hotels
The project is owned by Castello Sgr, a leading asset management company active in the real estate sector. Castello Sgr is controlled by Anima Group. The hotel is managed by Marriott International under the W Hotels brand.
The property’s development timeline included an initial announcement on June 2, 2025, which indicated a scheduled opening for August 2025, leading into the full official debut on April 30, 2026.
