The Wolfsberger AC (WAC) and PAOK Saloniki played out a goalless ‌draw in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie in Thessaloniki.⁢ While WAC demonstrated a strong performance, especially in the first ‍half, they couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the return leg.

First-Half Promise, Second-Half Stalemate

WAC started brightly, creating several promising attacking moves. However, they lacked the⁣ finishing‍ touch to convert those chances into goals. The defensive solidity of the WAC side remained intact, but⁤ opportunities for quick counter-attacks diminished after the break. A long-range effort from Avdijaj was the closest WAC came to breaking the deadlock in the second half.

Late in the game, angelo Gattermayer almost snatched a dramatic winner, but it wasn’t to be. The match ultimately petered out without any further critically important incidents.

Kühbauer Reflects on a Missed Prospect

WAC manager Dietmar Kühbauer acknowledged the team’s strong showing but lamented their ⁣inability to ⁤find the back of the net.

“I think we left a ‌great option as we made an incredibly good game against a good opponent in the first half,” Kühbauer stated. “We did not use the big possibilities and did not reward ourselves with goals. This is the only allegation that I⁤ can make the team. Similar performance.”
