Waco, Texas police have charged two men with aggravated robbery following an incident on , where a four-person crew allegedly held three people at gunpoint and stole cash, firearms, and electronics from a Waco apartment. Dontavius Jykere Daniels and Chancey Lemontra Betts are currently being held on $300,000 bond each.
According to arrest warrants, the robbery took place at an apartment located at 2010 S. 11th St. The suspects allegedly stole approximately $1,500 in cash, three handguns, an Xbox gaming console, and a cell phone from the victims.
Instagram Communication Preceded Robbery
A key element in the investigation involved communication between the victims and two of the suspects via Instagram. One of the victims reportedly recognized two of the individuals involved and had been in contact with them on the platform shortly before the robbery. The victim provided police with the Instagram accounts associated with the suspects, identifying them by the usernames “Beezy” and “Tray.”
Crucially, the victim received a direct message on Instagram at approximately , stating “We os bih.” Police interpreted this message as an indication that the suspects were arriving at the apartment.
Investigators obtained search warrants for the Instagram accounts and discovered messages where one suspect bragged about the robbery and referenced other participants, identified as “Tray,” “Jr.,” and “Don.” This digital trail proved instrumental in identifying and tracking the suspects.
Xbox Leads to Suspect Identification
The investigation took a significant turn when police discovered that Daniels had pawned a white Xbox One S at a shop on North 18th Street on – the day after the robbery. The Xbox was identified as matching the description of the console stolen from the victims.
Further examination of the Xbox at the pawn shop revealed residue from stickers that had been removed, matching the size and shape of stickers visible in photos of the stolen item. This physical evidence directly linked Daniels to the stolen property.
Surveillance footage from the pawn shop showed a man matching the description provided by the victim – a large Black man with short dreadlocks – pawning the Xbox. This visual confirmation further solidified the connection between Daniels and the crime.
Cell Phone Data Corroborates Suspect Movements
Police utilized cell phone records and location data to establish the movements of the suspects around the time of the robbery. The data indicated that devices belonging to multiple suspects were in close proximity to the robbery location approximately 45 minutes before the incident occurred.
Records also showed that the devices were together at an address shared by Daniels and Betts both before and after the robbery. Notably, only one device traveled to the actual robbery location during the timeframe of the crime.
Investigators determined that Betts, known as “Tray,” used his phone to send the message to the victim indicating their arrival just prior to the robbery. Daniels, described as approximately 6’4” and 215 pounds, is believed to be the individual referred to as “Don” in the Instagram messages discussing the robbery and matches the victim’s description of the largest suspect.
Both Daniels and Betts are charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony. As of today, , both remain in custody.
