The victory marked the second consecutive night the Demon Deacons walked off the Cardinals. The win moved Wake Forest to a record of 31-17 overall and 13-13 in ACC play, while Louisville fell to 26-21 overall and 10-13 in the conference.
The game ended in the bottom of the ninth inning when sophomore catcher Matt Conte drove in the winning run. Conte was hit by the first pitch of his at-bat with the bases loaded to seal the 6-5 result. Conte had been a key offensive contributor throughout the series, adding an RBI single in the first inning and finishing the two-game stretch with four RBIs on a 5-for-8 performance.
Offensive Highlights
Junior center fielder Javar Williams led the offense, recording a career-high four hits. Williams finished the game 4-for-4, including a double and an RBI single in the fourth inning that gave Wake Forest a 4-3 lead. He also scored a team-high three runs, including the game-winning run.
Junior left fielder Boston Torres contributed a home run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3. This marked Torres’ third home run of the season. Through the series against Louisville, the Lynchburg, Virginia, native has recorded six hits and three RBIs while scoring three runs.
Pitching and Defense
Freshman right-hander Marcelo Harsch earned his second win of the season. Harsch provided 2.2 innings of relief, allowing only one hit and one run while recording four strikeouts.
Freshman reliever Ryan Bosch played a critical role in the middle innings, striking out three of the six batters he faced. In the top of the fifth, Bosch recorded a strikeout to keep the game tied and leave two Louisville runners stranded. Over his last seven appearances, Bosch has allowed only one run, bringing his season ERA down to 3.38.
Defensively, sophomore right fielder Luke Costello preserved a scoreless sixth inning by robbing a potential home run.
The series victory continues a dominant trend for the Demon Deacons, who have now taken the series against Louisville for the fourth consecutive season.
