top-Priced Filly Leads Strong Sales at Tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale
Cheltenham, England – A promising filly with impressive bloodlines topped the tattersalls Cheltenham December Sale on Friday, fetching a sale-topping £280,000. heron In The Park (Ire), a 4-year-old daughter of Walk In The Park (Ire), was purchased by Damian Tiernan adn Tom Morgan, who plan to race her before considering breeding prospects.
“She has been bought as a racing and breeding prospect,” said Morgan, who also co-owns the successful racehorse Mrs Hyde. “we are going to go down the same route as her – run in a bumper and, hopefully, then get a bit of black-type.”
Heron In The Park, consigned by Monbeg Stables, broke her maiden in a point-to-point over three miles at Borris House on december 1st. She is also a half-sister to Glory And Fortune (Ire) (Fame And Glory {Ire}),a listed winner of a NH Flat race who went on to win the G3 Betfair Handicap hurdle and placed second in Kempton’s G1 Christmas Hurdle.
The sale also saw strong interest in another Walk in The Park progeny. Frankie John (Ire), a maiden point-to-point winner at Boulta on November 23rd, was purchased by Tom Malone for £275,000. The gray gelding, consigned by Boherna Stables, is a grandson of Grade 2 hurdle winner Rose Of Inchiquin (Ire) (Roselier {Fr}) and boasts a strong pedigree with stakes-winning half-siblings.
“Denis [hogan of Boherna Stables] has been telling me about this horse for the last six months and has been banging the drums about him,” said Malone. “The horse was impressive at the line at Boulta – he went past one of Donnchadh Doyle’s, and to outstay one of the Donnchadh’s means it was a good race.”
the December Sale saw 27 lots sold from 30 offered, achieving a healthy 90% clearance rate. The gross sales totaled £2,570,000, reflecting a 25% decrease compared to the previous year.
