Wall Street Offers New Bullish Outlook on Tesla By Investing.com
Investing.com – William Blair initiated coverage on Tesla (NASDAQ:), offering an outperform rating, primarily noting the underappreciated potential of Tesla’s energy storage business.
According to William Blair analysts, Tesla Energy, particularly its Megapack and Powerwall products, could be a key growth driver, especially as expectations for the electric vehicle (EV) segment ease in the short term.
William Blair said, “We see Tesla Energy as the most underrated element of the Tesla story, and we expect the conversation to shift to energy storage as expectations for electric vehicles ease in the short term.”
Analysts highlighted the need for grid stabilization, data center expansion and integration of renewable energy sources as three key factors that make Tesla’s energy storage business an attractive investment opportunity.
These factors, combined with Tesla’s expansive automotive business and emerging opportunities in artificial intelligence, robotics and robotics, appear to position the company as a technology leader creating an “Apple-like ecosystem for the energy of the future.”
William Blair elaborated, “Energy is the basis of life, and its abundance or scarcity determines how far a society can reach in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs.”
Analysts point out that Tesla’s approach to energy aims to revolutionize how energy is generated, stored and utilized, and have a broad societal impact, through futuristic innovations such as more efficient electric vehicles, energy storage solutions, robotaxis and humanoid robots.
He also argued that while Tesla’s current enterprise value may appear high by traditional metrics, this premium is justified.
“I understand that it’s hard to justify a company’s valuation using traditional comparative analysis with auto or even technology companies, but I think that misunderstands Tesla’s story.”
“We believe that the halo effect created by Musk, the culture of first principles thinking, and the technological leadership that Tesla has built warrant a significant valuation premium.”
