New York Stock Exchange Overnight: Mixed Results and Semiconductor Strength
This time, we will connect to Shinyoung Securities and take a look at the New York Stock Exchange overnight. Caster Ahn Ye-eun, please tell us.
Ahn Ye-eun/Shinyoung Securities: Yes, this is Shinyoung Securities. The three major indices on the New York Stock Exchange closed mixed. The Dow and S&P 500 fell 0.7% and 0.1%, respectively, while the Nasdaq rose 0.04%.
With little material to move the market, it was a wait-and-see day ahead of the release of the August ‘Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index’ on Friday night our time. Looking at each stock, the strength of semiconductor stocks stands out. Micron Technology is showing a surge of over 10% in after-hours trading after announcing earnings that surpassed market expectations.
Also, as the outlook for a semiconductor shortage recurred, Intel rose 3.2%, while AMD and Nvidia also showed increases in the 2% range. International oil prices fell. West Texas Intermediate crude oil closed at $69, down 2.6% on concerns about a slowdown in the Chinese economy.
Micron Technology of the United States, along with Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix of Korea, is a company that is dividing the global memory semiconductor market into three. Therefore, the favorable performance of Micron Technology is expected to have a positive effect on the Korean stock market today.
