Lady Wallace’s 1897 bequest of over 5,500 items formed the core of this national collection. The partnership with Google Arts & culture honors this legacy through digitized artworks, including 59 in gigapixel detail, 50 digital stories, and a 3D exhibition. This digital transformation provides a playful experience, inviting audiences to engage with the art in new ways.
The gigapixel captures reveal details frequently enough missed by the naked eye. For example, viewers can now see the vibrant red lashes in Watteau’s “A Woman at Her Toilet,” the delicate lace in Vigee Le Brun’s “Madame Perregaux,” hidden symbols in Jan Steen’s ”Celebrating the Birth,” and atmospheric nuances in Ruben’s “Rainbow Landscape.”
