Calgary’s Southcentre Mall will welcome a new 165,000-square-foot Walmart Supercentre in 2028, occupying the two-level space formerly housed by Hudson’s Bay. The project represents a relocation for the neighborhood rather than an addition, moving the existing Walmart store currently operating at 9650 Macleod Trail SE directly into the shopping centre at the intersection of Macleod Trail and Anderson Road in south Calgary.
Inside the New Southcentre Mall Supercentre Design
The upcoming retail destination will serve as an anchor tenant for the property and feature a full grocery store carrying fresh produce, chicken, beef, pork, seafood, deli products, baked goods, dairy, frozen foods, and pantry staples. Shoppers will also find general merchandise departments covering clothing, electronics, home goods, seasonal items, and health and wellness products. Additional amenities include an in-store pharmacy, a vision centre, and online grocery and merchandise pickup and delivery services.
This new supercentre will help bring even more convenient access to our customers in south Calgary, welcoming them to our one-stop-shop within the Southcentre Mall,
Shawn Fujiki, Senior Director of Real Estate at Walmart Canada, stated.
Property Evolution and Capital Investment Strategy
Southcentre Mall is owned and operated by Oxford Properties, a firm managing more than seven million square feet of retail space across Canada. Oxford Properties spokesperson Tori Nixon noted that the agreement demonstrates the company’s track record of reimagining retail environments to meet shifting market demands.

Walmart’s arrival at Southcentre reflects our proven ability to adapt and evolve our centres in response to changing market dynamics, transforming space into compelling new opportunities that strengthen the retailer mix, enhance the customer experience and reinforce the long-term success of the property,
Nixon said.
In 2025, Walmart Canada unveiled a $6.5-billion, five-year investment program designed to expand its store and supply chain footprint across the country. The Calgary development marks the fourth new supercentre announced for Alberta under this financial commitment, joining a Fort McMurray store slated to open on October 22, 2026, alongside scheduled openings in Edmonton and Tsuut’ina Nation in 2027.
