Wanderlei Silva Disqualified and Knocked Out After Chaotic fight with Acelino Freitas
Saitama, Japan – Former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva returned to competition after a seven-year hiatus at Spaten Fight Night 2, but his comeback was marred by controversy and a brutal knockout. silva faced former two-time world boxing champion Acelino Freitas in an exhibition bout, and teh fight ended in disqualification for Silva followed by a post-fight brawl where he was knocked unconscious.
Despite outweighing Freitas by 44lbs, Silva struggled against the boxerS experience in the first two rounds. He than resorted to illegal tactics, repeatedly throwing headbutts which resulted in two point deductions. The referee ultimately stopped the fight at 1:34 of the fourth round, disqualifying Silva.
The decision sparked a chaotic scene as members of both teams engaged in a physical altercation. During the brawl, Silva was struck by a powerful hook from an unidentified individual, knocking him out and leaving him unconscious on the ring floor.
Originally Scheduled to Face Vitor Belfort
This fight was initially intended to be a rematch against longtime rival Vitor Belfort, who famously knocked Silva out in just 44 seconds at UFC Brazil in 1998. However, Belfort withdrew from the bout citing two concussions sustained in training, a claim Silva publicly disputes.
Silva expressed his frustration at missing the chance for revenge, stating, “He needs to do what he’s always talking about.”
