Waqf Land Dispute: PK Kunhalikutty Offers Hope for Amicable Resolution in Munambam, Vows to Protect Residents’ Rights

Chelakkara: Muslim League national general secretary PK Kunhalikutty said the Munambam Waqf land issue will be resolved amicably. The Muslim League and UDF are with Munamba’s fish killers. The League will step forward to resolve the problem. Kunhalikutty also said that the rights of Munamba residents will be protected.

At the same time, opposition leader VD Satheesan responded that Munamba land had been claimed by the people living there and that the government and the Waqf Board were Munamba’s villains. Munamba is not Waqf land. How can the land purchased and handed over by the management of Farooq College become waqf land? The fraud came to light when the Waqf Board Chairman said that the matter will be resolved in court. This is where what Prakash Javadedkar said and the government’s stand are one and the same. Satheesan also said that the government is trying to make room for the BJP in Kerala just like the BJP tried to win by cutting off Pooram.

How does this issue relate to the Waqf law? There were no problems for 26 years after the Waqf Amendment Act, 1995 came into force. In 2021, the Waqf Board advised the Revenue Department not to take over. Where have they been for 26 years? There was no pretense then.

The UDF has asked the government to convene an all-party meeting to resolve the issue. The government should direct the Waqf Board to take a stand in court that Munamba is not Waqf land. Or settle the matter out of court and inform the court. VD Satheesan said that the government is cheating without doing any of these.
