Warner Bros. Discovery is set to divide into two distinct public companies by next year, separating its cable operations from its streaming service. The declaration led to a jump of more than 9% in shares before the market opened.
The company revealed that the Streaming & Studios division will encompass Warner Bros. Television, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, DC Studios, HBO, and HBO Max, along with their extensive film and television libraries.This move aims to sharpen the focus on content creation and distribution.
Conversely,the Global Networks company will feature CNN,TNT Sports in the U.S., Discovery, leading free-to-air channels across Europe, and digital platforms like Discovery+ and Bleacher Report. This division will concentrate on delivering news and sports content to a global audience.
David Zaslav, currently CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery,will take the helm of Streaming & Studios. Gunnar Wiedenfels, the company’s chief financial officer, will become CEO of Global Networks. Both executives will maintain their current positions until the separation is complete.
