Warriors Edge Pelicans 112-108: Wiggins Shines with Season-High 30 Points
The Golden State Warriors defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 112-108 at Smoothie King Center. The Pelicans were missing several key players and had lost 12 of their last 14 games.
Andrew Wiggins led the Warriors with a season-high 30 points. He made 5-of-5 shots and 3-of-3 from three-point range in the first quarter. Steph Curry added 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Draymond Green contributed 11 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. The Warriors improved to 3-0 in the NBA Cup and have a strong record when Green makes three or more three-pointers.
Wiggins’ Performance
Wiggins has been on a scoring run, hitting at least 20 points in three straight games after a slow start. He scored 13 points in the first quarter, totaling 19 by halftime. In the fourth quarter, he scored seven crucial points and made all nine free-throw attempts.
Bench Struggles
The Warriors’ bench struggled to contribute. While the starters scored 40 points in the first half, the bench managed only 22. Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield had off nights. Hield hit only 2-of-7 from three-point range. Kuminga was held to just two layups and a dunk, missing both of his three-point attempts.
Lindy Waters’ Cold Night
Lindy Waters, starting alongside Curry, did not score and went 0-for-3 on three-pointers. He played 15 minutes, the fewest of any starter. Waters has shown potential but has not consistently produced points. His first few games as a starter have not been strong, averaging just 5.4 points.
The Warriors will look to improve their bench production in future games to support their star players better.
