Warriors Play it Close to the Chest: Jonathan Kuminga’s Contract Future Remains a Mystery
Warriors’ Contract Limit for Jonathan Kuminga Revealed
The Golden State Warriors have secured their core players, but the team has not disclosed the limit for young player Jonathan Kuminga’s next contract.
Stephen Curry received a significant one-year contract extension to stay with the Warriors, while Draymond Green will play for three more seasons. Head coach Steve Kerr has also secured a core part of the team.
As for young players, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody are awaiting contract extensions before the season. Kuminga plays a crucial role for the Warriors due to his athletic ability.
The Warriors are looking to become the second-highest scoring team behind Stephen Curry. Jonathan Kuminga finished third on the team in points per game last season (16.1 points), second only to Stephen Curry and the late Klay Thompson. However, the frontcourt has struggled to work well with Draymond Green, and defensive issues arose last season.
Considering the Warriors’ past experience with overpaying Jordan Poole, they seem hesitant to accept the big contract Jonathan Kuminga is expecting.
Currently, the Warriors are not ready to offer Jonathan Kuminga a max extension, such as the five-year, $224 million deal Franz Wagner received from the Orlando Magic, or anything close to the $44 million contract.
