The Washington Commanders officially revealed a redesigned 2026 uniform closet on April 15, 2026, introducing a collection that blends the franchise’s historical identity with a modern aesthetic. The update restores several classic elements from the team’s most successful periods while debuting a new alternate look known as the Hail Raiser
.
The redesign is centered on a return to a traditional color scheme and styles reminiscent of the era when the franchise won three Super Bowl championships between 1981 and 1991. According to team president Mark Clouse, the new looks are associated with some incredible moments
.
Return to the Super Bowl Era
A primary component of the 2026 wardrobe is the reintroduction of Super Bowl Era sets. These uniforms, which the team wore on three occasions during the previous season, have now been established as permanent fixtures. The collection includes a classic burgundy jersey and an iconic white jersey, both serving in primary roles for the 2026 season.
The white jerseys and burgundy pants specifically evoke the look worn during the franchise’s victories in Super Bowls XVII, XXII, and XXVI. To complement these jerseys, the team has introduced a new gloss burgundy helmet featuring a gold facemask and the signature three-stripe pattern. This glossy finish marks a departure from the Super Bowl Era ensemble used in the previous season.
The team will also continue to use gold pants, which were originally reintroduced in 2024 after a six-year absence. To maintain a consistent visual identity across the closet, these gold pants feature two stripes and can be paired with either the burgundy or white primary jerseys.
The uniforms also feature a return to a solid block style font for the nameplates and numbers on the front, back, and shoulder pads. This numbering style was first brought back on the Super Bowl Era alternate uniforms worn during the prior season and has now been expanded to the burgundy and black versions of the 2026 uniforms.
The Hail Raiser Alternate
Alongside the traditional sets, the Commanders unveiled an all-black alternate uniform dubbed the Hail Raiser
. This ensemble features burgundy block lettering and numbers accented with gold trim.

The Hail Raiser look is paired with a low-gloss black helmet that has a matte-like finish. The helmet includes burgundy and gold stripes running down the center and a new alternate logo on both sides. This logo consists of a burgundy W
with a gold spear woven across the middle, described as a spear knifing through the letter and almost meeting in the front.
This design differs from the team’s previous all-black uniforms, which utilized stylized gold numbers and lettering and featured gold numbers on glossy black helmets.
Bridging Franchise History
The inclusion of the spear in the alternate logo is a deliberate nod to the franchise’s heritage. From 1965 to 1968, the team featured a spear with a dangling feather on its burgundy helmets. Mark Clouse stated that the organization intended to bridge the evolution from the Redskins era to the Commander era
.
The spear is just such a great device. That was part [of] the heritage of the team and also can live in this ecosystem that we’ve been building around defining a Commander.
Mark Clouse, Washington team president
This effort to marry the past with a future vision extends beyond the uniforms. The team’s new stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2030, is designed to resemble RFK Stadium, the team’s home from 1961 to 1996 and the site of its most successful teams.
The updated uniforms and official apparel featuring the new alternate spear W logo are available for purchase online and at the Commanders’ team store located at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
