A clip from the anime short film Yamanaka Sadao ni Sasageru Manga Eiga “Nezumi Kozou Jirokichi” has been released. The film is currently showing at the Eurospace theater in Shibuya until December 6 JST.
The film is directed by Rintaro, known for Galaxy Express 999, X, and Metropolis. It features character designs by Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira, and Yoshinori Kanemori from the X TV series. The Sitges Film Festival describes the short film as follows:
This project marks Rintaro’s return after a fourteen-year break from directing. It focuses on the creation of the 1933 film Nezumikozô Jirokichi: Edo no Maki, made by Sadao Yamanaka, a significant figure in the transition of Japanese cinema from silent films to talkies. Yamanaka passed away in 1938 at the age of 28.
Rintaro is also credited for adaptation, while Sadao Yamanaka is the screenwriter. Genco and France’s Miyu Productions handled the production’s business and planning aspects.
