Waterford Flooding: Roads Impassable This Morning

Flooding is expected to worsen across areas of Waterford as today progresses.

This comes as Waterford is under a Status Yellow weather warning for wind and rain.

When coupled with the current high levels of the River Suir, flooding is expected to increase across the day.

Both weather warnings remain in place until 11pm this evening, January 27th when Storm Chandra abates.

As of 07:00am, several areas have reported disruptive flooding across the county.

Situation at 07:00am

In Dungarvan, carparks at Davitt’s Quay, Castle Street, The Lookout, and Abbeyside Pond are closed.

The road from Carroll’s Cross to Portlaw is significantly flooded.

Additionally, flooding is reported from Kilmeaden to Portlaw.

Commuters to school in Kill are advised that there are two areas of heavy flooding en route to the school itself.

Also impacted is the road between Bonmahon and Kill with debris reported on the road, together with flooding.

The approach to the Ballindud roundabout on the Tramore road is flooded on both sides.

In the city itself, there is heavy surface water just off the roundabout in the Kilbarry area, close to Euronics.

En route to Waterford from the New Ross area, just past the Gala Service Station, traffic is being turned back due to severe flooding.

A warning has been issued for the Ballymacaw cliff walk due to saturated unsafe cliff tops.

Updates at 08:00am

Military Road in Dungarvan is closed due to flooding.

Flooding on the approach to the Ballindud roundabout is impacting traffic both inbound and outbound.

Severe flooding on the Bog Road, Portlaw on the approach to Darrigal Cross.

Green Road, adjacent to the Ballindud area is completely flooded and impassable.

Similarly, the Lacken entrance to the Tramore Road is flooded and impassable.

Flooding reported in the Knockenduff area of Tramore, due to high river levels and run-off from fields.

Earlier warning for Ballymacaw reissued due to minor landslide on very waterlogged soil and ground.
