Gardaí Engage with International Students at SETU Waterford
Members of the Garda Síochána (Irish Police force) recently visited South East Technological University (SETU) in Waterford to connect with new international students. Garda O’Byrne and Garda McSweeney met with students to provide crucial details and support as they adjust to life in Ireland.

Information Session Topics
The Gardaí addressed several key areas relevant to international students, focusing on legal rights and personal safety.The session covered Irish immigration laws, providing clarity on regulations and requirements for students.
Beyond legal matters, the Gardaí offered practical crime prevention advice. Specific topics included personal safety strategies, the dangers of drink and drug driving, and how to identify and avoid accommodation fraud – a common issue for students new to the country.
Further advice was given regarding “money muling,” a form of financial fraud where individuals are unknowingly used to launder money,and the ‘Ask for angela’ campaign,a discreet initiative allowing individuals to signal they are in distress in licensed premises.
