Four finalists are in contention for the award and a $50,000 grant: Heights Philadelphia,Veterans Multi Service Center,Joyful Readers,and Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation. The Wawa Foundation supports these organizations’ vital role in strengthening communities.
Heights philadelphia focuses on educational pathways for students in the Philadelphia area, aiming to improve college and career access. The organization emphasizes holistic support and lasting opportunities, particularly for Black, Latino, and first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds.
The Veterans Multi-service Center provides complete services to U.S. military veterans and their families, offering programs and opportunities for advancement.
joyful Readers addresses literacy by providing full-time tutors to young students in Philadelphia. The nonprofit aims to improve reading levels,noting that only 33% of Philadelphia’s K-3 students read at their grade level.
