Waymo, Alphabet’s self-driving‍ car company, is broadening its autonomous ride-hailing service across Los angeles, marking its second major expansion in ⁢teh ⁣region this year.The⁤ expansion, beginning Wednesday, significantly increases Waymo’s⁢ role in L.A. transportation.

Riders will now have access to Waymo services in Playa del Rey, Ladera Heights, Echo park, Silver‍ Lake, and along the entirety ‍of Sunset Boulevard. waymo also announced direct routes connecting Mid-City to Inglewood and Westchester via La Cienega and La Brea.

The company said the expansion means Waymo will operate across more than 120 square ⁣miles ⁣of Los Angeles County. Waymo also operates in the San Francisco Bay⁢ Area, Silicon Valley, Phoenix, Ariz., and Austin, Texas.

“We’re very proud of this progress — we’re the first (autonomous⁣ vehicle) service operating at real scale and we continue to see growing demand and trust in our services,” the company said.

Last week, Waymo temporarily suspended its downtown Los Angeles service after⁣ anti-immigration protesters vandalized and set fire to⁤ several of its vehicles. The motive behind the targeting remains unclear.
