Wayve Raises .2B to Scale End-to-End AI for Autonomous Driving | Uber & Automakers Invest

Wayve Raises $1.2B to Scale End-to-End AI for Autonomous Driving | Uber & Automakers Invest

February 25, 2026 Victoria Sterling -Business Editor Business

London, UK – February 25, 2026 – Wayve, a UK-based artificial intelligence software developer for autonomous vehicles, has secured $1.2 billion in Series D funding, valuing the company at $8.6 billion post-money. The investment signals a significant shift towards commercial deployment of its end-to-end AI platform and highlights growing industry convergence around this approach to autonomous driving.

The funding round was led by Eclipse, Balderton, and SoftBank Vision Fund 2, with participation from new investors including Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, Baillie Gifford, British Business Bank, Icehouse Ventures, and Schroders Capital. Notably, major players across the automotive and technology sectors also contributed, including Microsoft, NVIDIA, Uber, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis.

Wayve’s approach, pioneered in 2017, focuses on end-to-end AI, industrializing a safety-by-design architecture into a production-ready autonomy platform. This differs from traditional autonomous vehicle development which often relies on detailed mapping and rule-based systems. The company licenses its AI Driver directly to automakers, allowing for customization of driving models for specific vehicles and brands. This model avoids the capital-intensive process of vertically integrating hardware and software.

The $1.2 billion Series D is part of a broader $1.5 billion capital raise intended to support commercial rollout. Uber has committed additional, milestone-based capital to scale Wayve-powered robotaxi deployments globally. Commercial robotaxi trials are slated to begin in 2026, with plans to integrate Wayve’s AI Driver into consumer vehicles starting in 2027, beginning with L2+ “hands-off” capability.

A key differentiator for Wayve is its ability to operate in “zero-shot” environments. The company claims to be the first and only autonomous vehicle developer to drive in over 500 cities across Europe, North America, and Japan in a single year without requiring city-specific fine-tuning. Here’s enabled by a foundation model trained on a globally diverse dataset spanning over 70 countries and a wide range of vehicle platforms.

The partnership with Uber will see the deployment of Wayve’s AI Driver in L4-capable vehicles from participating automakers, with Uber owning and operating the fleet. The initial service launch is planned for London in 2026, with subsequent expansion to more than 10 markets internationally.

Nissan Motor Co. Has also signed a production partnership with Wayve to integrate its AI Driver into Nissan’s next-generation ProPILOT driver-assistance systems, with vehicles expected to launch in Japan and other global markets from fiscal year 2027. Stellantis also intends to leverage Wayve’s technology within its driverless AV Ready Platforms.

“With $1.5 billion secured, we are building for a total addressable market that spans every vehicle that moves,” said Alex Kendall, Co-Founder and CEO of Wayve. “Autonomy will not scale through city-by-city robotaxi deployments alone. It will scale through a trusted platform that automakers and fleets can deploy globally and improve continuously.”

Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, stated, “Wayve is pushing the frontier of embodied AI for autonomous driving, and Azure supports the scale, reliability, and safety needed to bring that innovation into the real world. Through our partnership and investment, we’re helping accelerate the path from breakthrough research to scaled commercial deployment with automakers worldwide.”

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, added, “We are very proud to continue to deepen our partnership with Wayve, with plans to deploy together in more than 10 markets around the world. Wayve’s powerful end-to-end approach is purpose-built for scale, safety, and effectiveness, and we’re excited to work with them across multiple OEMs and geographies, which we’ll share more about soon.”

The investment reflects a broader trend of consolidation and investment in the autonomous vehicle sector. While numerous companies are pursuing self-driving technology, Wayve’s focus on end-to-end AI is gaining traction as a potentially more scalable and cost-effective approach. The participation of established automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Stellantis underscores the industry’s belief in the viability of this technology.

Ivan Espinosa, President and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, commented, “This investment deepens our partnership with Wayve and supports Nissan’s plans to advance autonomous driving through scalable end‑to‑end AI. By strengthening this collaboration, we are reinforcing our competitiveness in intelligent mobility and our focus on long‑term value creation.”

Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, said, “Wayve’s embodied‑AI approach and end-to-end learning architecture represent an important innovation in autonomous driving technology. Their work aligns well with Stellantis’ platform‑driven strategy and our focus on scalable, safety‑first vehicle intelligence. We see strong potential for collaboration as we advance our autonomy roadmap, including our driverless AV Ready Platforms™, with the clear objective of delivering safer and more intuitive driving experiences for customers worldwide”.

The UK government has also expressed support for Wayve, with Secretary of State for Transport Heidi Alexander stating the investment will “cement the UK as a powerhouse for the next generation of transport.”
