Sander Skotheim, 23, has rapidly ascended to the top of the decathlon world. his 2024 season has been marked by consistent excellence, beginning with a gold medal in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, on March 2, 2024 (World athletics). He followed this with another gold, this time in the World Indoor Championships held in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 3, 2024, setting a European indoor record of 6558 points (World Athletics).
Skotheim’s outdoor season has been equally impressive. His victory at the Hypo Meeting in Gotzis, Austria, on May 25-26, 2024, with a score of 8909 points, established him as the world leader and placed him seventh on the all-time list (World Athletics). This performance also surpassed the Norwegian record previously held by Markus Rooth, set in Paris in 2023 (European Athletics).

Norway has emerged as a force in the decathlon, largely due to the competitive dynamic between Skotheim and Markus Rooth.
