Weather Forecast for November 16: Intense Rains and Possible Snow in Mexico

November 16, 2024 Catherine Williams News

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) of the Government of Mexico issued a weather forecast for Saturday, November 16. The forecast includes heavy rain and possible snowfall in various regions of the country.

On this Saturday, the first winter storm of the season and Cold Front No. 10 will move over the northwest and gradually into northern Mexico. This interaction with subtropical and polar jet streams will cause a significant drop in temperature, strong winds, and rain in these areas. Snow or sleet may fall in the mountain regions of Baja California, Sonora, and northern Chihuahua.

Additionally, the center of Tropical Storm “Sara” is approaching the southern part of the Yucatán Peninsula. Its wide circulation will bring heavy rain to the peninsula and southeastern Mexico, with waves reaching heights of 1 to 3 meters and strong winds. There is also a risk of waterspouts along the coast of Quintana Roo.

Moreover, a monsoonal trough is moving closer to the southern and central Pacific coasts of Mexico, increasing the chance of rain in those areas.

Cold Front No. 9 will remain stationary over the Gulf of Mexico, causing a gradual rise in daytime temperatures in the northeast, east, and central parts of the country.

Rain Forecast for November 16:

  • Very strong to intense rain (75 to 150 mm): Chiapas, Campeche, and Quintana Roo.
  • Strong to very strong rain (50 to 75 mm): Tabasco and Yucatán.
  • Showers (5 to 25 mm): Baja California, Sonora, Durango, Sinaloa, Chihuahua, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz (south), and Oaxaca.
  • Isolated rain (0.1 to 5 mm): State of Mexico, Hidalgo, and Puebla.
  • Possible snowfall or sleet: Mountain areas of Baja California, Sonora, and northern Chihuahua.

Heavy rain could lead to flooding and mudslides, and strong winds may topple trees and signs.

Stay informed with the National Meteorological Service for updates on weather conditions.
