Production is officially underway on the third season of Netflix’s supernatural mystery series, Wednesday, and the cast list is expanding with some familiar faces from both the small and big screens. Among the new additions is Academy Award nominee Winona Ryder, marking a reunion with director Tim Burton and star Jenna Ortega.

Ryder, best known for her iconic role in Beetlejuice and her breakout performance in Heathers, will portray a character named Tabitha, according to Netflix. This collaboration continues a long-standing professional relationship with Burton, having previously starred in several of his films including Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The pairing also brings Ryder back together with Ortega, with whom she recently appeared in 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

“I am so happy that Winona has joined us, she fits right into this world. And she’s a dear friend. I always feel lucky to work with her,” Burton said in a statement released by Netflix. The sentiment underscores the director’s appreciation for Ryder’s talent and the comfortable creative dynamic they share.

Beyond Ryder, Season 3 will welcome several other new cast members. Chris Sarandon, known for his role as Prince Humperdinck in The Princess Bride, will play Balthazar. Noah Taylor, who has appeared in series like Peaky Blinders, is set to portray Cyrus. Oscar Morgan, recently seen in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will take on the role of Atticus, and Kennedy Moyer (Task, Roofman) will play Daisy. Adding another layer to the Burton connection, Eva Green, who starred in Burton’s Dark Shadows, joins the cast as Wednesday’s aunt Ophelia.

The announcement comes as production gets underway in Dublin, Ireland. Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar expressed their enthusiasm for the new season, acknowledging the passionate fan base and hinting at deeper explorations of the Addams Family’s history. “It’s our dark delight to fling open Nevermore Academy’s gates once more as we begin production on Season Three,” they said in a statement. “We thank our invincible cast and crew for their continued commitment to doom and gloom. To the fans, we appreciate your patience and ravenous online commentary – your twisted theories have inspired nightmares. This season, we welcome new students and new teachers and excavate some long-rotting Addams Family secrets. Don’t say you weren’t warned.”

The returning cast includes Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Fred Armisen as Uncle Fester, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolous, Evie Templeton as Agnes, Joanna Lumley as Grandmama, Billie Piper as Isadora Capri, and Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Sheriff Ritchie Santiago.

Wednesday, created and executive produced by Gough and Millar, is based on the characters created by Charles Addams. The series quickly became a global phenomenon upon its initial release in late 2022, becoming Netflix’s most-viewed English-language series, amassing nearly two billion hours viewed. Season 2, released in parts during the summer of 2025, continued the show’s success, leaving audiences with lingering questions about the fates of several characters and the deeper mysteries surrounding the Addams family. Season 3 promises to delve further into those secrets, building on the established gothic atmosphere and macabre humor that have defined the series.
