However, the impact of weekend sleep recovery-the extent to which individuals ”catch up” on sleep during weekends after experiencing sleep restriction during the week-on CKD risk remains unclear.

The findings revealed that individuals with shorter weekday sleep duration (<7 hours) who also exhibited greater weekend sleep recovery had a lower risk of developing CKD compared to those with similar weekday sleep duration but less weekend sleep recovery. Specifically, for each additional hour of weekend sleep recovery, the risk of CKD decreased by 8%.
