Entrepreneurs in Germany’s provincial regions are organizing their own airline services in response to Lufthansa’s withdrawal from several small regional airports.
The initiative is designed to restore air connectivity for underserved areas that have seen a reduction in flights from the national carrier. According to reporting from WELT, Lübeck has become the second regional airport to join this network, following an earlier implementation in Paderborn.
The project is being led by local business leaders who are coordinating the establishment of an airline to serve as an alternative to the diminished regional presence of Lufthansa. The ambitions of the group include establishing long-haul connections from these provincial hubs to major international destinations, including Los Angeles.
