The jury did, however, reach a verdict on two other charges. Weinstein was found guilty of committing a criminal sexual act against Miriam Haley but was acquitted of sexually assaulting Kaja Sokola. The partial verdict and subsequent mistrial followed weeks of testimony that began in April, during which three women detailed alleged sexual assaults by the former Hollywood producer. Weinstein faced multiple charges, including counts of committing a criminal sexual act and third-degree rape.
The foreperson revealed that the jury had reached a unanimous verdict on the charges related to Haley and Sokola the previous Friday. Though, tensions remained high during deliberations on the third-degree rape count. Judge Curtis Farber summarized a private discussion with the foreperson, stating the foreperson would not change his position. The judge also noted allegations of a juror making threatening comments, including “I’ll meet you outside one day,” accompanied by yelling.
Weinstein’s previous conviction in New York for sexually abusing Haley and Mann in 2020 resulted in a 23-year sentence, which was overturned in April 2024. He pleaded not guilty to all charges in the retrial. Haley testified that Weinstein forcibly sexually assaulted her in 2006, while Mann accused him of rape in 2013.Sokola, who did not testify in the 2020 trial, described two alleged sexual assaults by Weinstein, one in 2002 and another in 2006, the latter being the focus of the retrial charge.
What’s next
