Wellstar Plans New Acworth Hospital to Meet Georgia Healthcare Demand

Wellstar Health System, a non-profit healthcare provider, has announced plans to construct a new 230-bed hospital in Acworth, Georgia. The proposed facility aims to address the increasing demand for healthcare services and improve access to care in the region. A letter of intent has been filed with the Georgia Department of Community Health.
The new hospital will be located on Cobb Parkway, across from the Wellstar Acworth Health Park.The location is designed to provide integrated, coordinated, and efficient care for patients in the Acworth area, where healthcare service needs are growing.
According to Wellstar, this project will leverage resources from Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center, Wellstar Paulding Medical Center, and other Wellstar care locations to deliver thorough healthcare services. The new Acworth hospital represents a notable investment in the community’s health infrastructure.
Wellstar plans to submit a comprehensive Certificate of Need application by June 23. This application will detail the architectural plans for the new hospital and outline how the facility will address the community’s health and wellness needs.
“Wellstar is improving access to care, and this new hospital is the latest in a series of projects that do just that,” said Candice Saunders, president and CEO of Wellstar Health System.
Saunders added that the area’s rapid growth necessitates additional hospital beds, even with the upcoming opening of a new tower at Wellstar Kennestone.She emphasized that a new hospital in Acworth would fulfill a critical need for medical care in the region.
“A hospital would be extremely beneficial to our community, and we appreciate Wellstar’s willingness to meet our needs,” said acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood.
Wellstar has invested more than $1.4 billion in healthcare infrastructure projects, including expansions at Wellstar Kennestone and Wellstar Paulding, an oncology center at Wellstar Spalding Medical Center, and a new hospital in Columbia County. The system also collaborates with the Augusta University Medical College of Georgia Center for Digital Health to extend specialty care to rural hospitals.

Following the submission of the certificate of Need application, Wellstar will await regulatory approval before proceeding with construction. The timeline for the project will depend on the review process and subsequent approvals.
