The highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour, marking 25 years since their iconic Knebworth park performance, has been overshadowed by a tragic death at their Manchester show and reports of concerning security incidents.Despite overwhelmingly positive reviews of the performances themselves, questions are being raised about safety protocols at the events.
A Shadow Over the Reunion: Fan Death and security Incident
The joy surrounding Oasis’s return to the stage was tragically disrupted by the death of a fan at the Manchester show. Both Oasis and the venue, the Etihad Stadium, released statements expressing shock and condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
“We are shocked and saddened to hear of the tragic death of a fan at the show. Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved,” Oasis stated on Sunday.
Adding to the concerns, it emerged that a ticket-holding fan was knocked unconscious by a security guard while attempting to enter the Manchester venue. The incident, reported by NME,left the fan unable to attend the concert. This raises serious questions about the handling of crowd control and the use of force by security personnel.
The venue operators released a statement highlighting their commitment to safety: “We work closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders - including event owners, local authorities, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and the police – to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service for everyone attending or working in the venue.” However, the incident casts a shadow over these assurances.
On Stage: A Triumphant Return to form
Despite the off-stage issues, the concerts themselves have been met with widespread acclaim. NME awarded the Cardiff show a full five stars, describing it as “Oasis redesigned for the 21st century.” The review highlighted the band’s ability to evolve while retaining the energy and anthems that made them a global phenomenon.
“Playing before a pop-art-meets-psychedelia visual spectacular that never distracts but will look sick on a phone, they seem the quintessential stadium band playing the greatest hits of greatest hits,” the review stated.
the tour kicked off in Edinburgh on August 8th and continued with the Manchester show. The band is currently completing a three-show stint in Edinburgh before heading to Dublin and then embarking on the North American leg of the ‘Oasis Live ’25’ tour.
Tour Dates and Future Plans
Following the North American dates, Oasis will return to the UK for two final shows at Wembley Stadium in September. There’s even speculation about expanding the tour further, with reports of negotiations underway to bring the show to Rome. According to a local councillor, discussions are ongoing to secure a date in Italy, possibly adding another European stop to the already extensive tour schedule.
The current tour schedule includes 41 comeback shows, offering fans across the globe a chance to experience the iconic band live once again. Though, the recent events underscore the importance of prioritizing safety and security alongside the spectacle of a large-scale concert tour.
