Cork Gets a taste of America: Wendy’s Arrives in Mahon Point
Cork residents will soon have a new dining option as Wendy’s,the global fast-food chain,prepares to open its first Irish restaurant in Mahon Point shopping Center this October. The expansion is a result of a partnership between Corrib Oil, Wendy’s franchise partner in Ireland, and will bring 50 new jobs to the area. Recruitment for both full and part-time positions is currently underway.
Corrib Oil, established in 1987, currently operates 40 convenience stores with forecourts and 20 fuel depots across 17 counties.This partnership with wendy’s is a key component of their broader expansion strategy, aiming to more than double their national footprint to 100 locations by 2030. Plans are in place to open ten Wendy’s locations across the country this year, both as standalone restaurants and integrated within select Corrib Oil service stations.
Wendy’s, founded in the late 1960s and headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, is renowned for its square-shaped burgers and is the world’s third-largest hamburger chain, following McDonald’s and Burger King.

Justin Young, Centre director of Mahon Point Shopping Centre, highlighted the positive impact on the local economy, saying, “This opening is great news for Cork – not only does it create 50 new local jobs, but it also gives people the chance to enjoy the craveable, high-quality food Wendy’s is famous for.”
Mahon Point itself is undergoing notable advancement, owned by German real estate giant Deka, which acquired the centre in 2005. Plans have been submitted for a €200 million expansion,dubbed “Mahon 2.0,” which woudl include 251 apartments, an office block capable of accommodating 580 workers, a new civic plaza and market square, a multi-storey car park, a discount retailer, and additional retail spaces.
