West Virginia senior guard Jasper Floyd has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to reporting from On3’s Pete Nakos. This move marks the beginning of a search for Floyd’s fifth collegiate program in five seasons.

During his single season in Morgantown, Floyd averaged 7.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. His most productive performance for the Mountaineers occurred in the season opener against Mount St. Mary’s, where he recorded a season-high 25 points in a victory.

Collegiate History and Transitions

Floyd’s tenure at West Virginia followed a pattern of frequent transfers. Prior to joining the Mountaineers, he played for North Texas during the 2024-25 season, Fairfield in 2023-24, and NJCAA Hillsborough College in 2022-23.

His move to West Virginia was linked to head coach Ross Hodge, whom Floyd had previously played under at North Texas. Floyd contributed six points in the title game of the College Basketball Crown (CBC) championship, where West Virginia defeated Oklahoma 89-82 in overtime.

West Virginia Roster Impact

Floyd is the fourth player from the West Virginia roster to enter the transfer portal. He joins forward Evans Barning, guard Jayden Forsythe, and forward DJ Thomas.

The departures come as the program faces a significant roster overhaul. West Virginia is losing its entire starting lineup to graduation, necessitating a heavy reliance on the transfer portal to rebuild the team for the next season.

The Hodge Era and Recent Performance

In his first season as head coach at West Virginia, Ross Hodge led the team to a 21-14 record. While the Mountaineers narrowly missed an invitation to the NCAA Tournament, they secured the College Basketball Crown Championship.

The team finished the season with momentum, winning five of their final seven games. This stretch included regular season victories over NCAA Tournament teams BYU and UCF, as well as CBC tournament wins against Stanford, Creighton, and Oklahoma.

Following the conclusion of the 2025-2026 season, West Virginia is seeking a return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2023.

Transfer Portal Timeline

The 2026 transfer portal officially opened at midnight on Tuesday, April 7, following the NCAA National Championship game on Monday. The window for players to enter the portal is scheduled to remain open for two weeks, closing on April 21.
