Franco-Manitoban Kelly Bado and Fransaskois Mario Lepage (Pointex) were celebrated at the Canadian Western music Awards in Winnipeg on September 25th. Kelly Bado won the overall Artist of the Year award,and Mario Lepage was named the French-speaking Artist of the Year for 2025.
“It is an honor to be selected from so many vital artists who are talented and who represent Western Canada in their own way,and I am proud to be part of an event with such a beautiful French-speaking presence this year.”
This is a second win of its kind for Ponteix,who also received this recognition in 2017. For him, the award provides renewed energy for his career.
With his Pointex project, Mario Lepage is successfully promoting Francophone culture beyond Quebec. The artist recently returned from a European tour where he showcased Fransaskois culture through several performances in France with his new album, Le canadian wandering.
Beyond songwriting and composition, Pointex has also made his mark in music production. In 2019, he received the Director of the Year award at the Saskatchewan Music Awards, as well as a Western Canadian Music Award.
Kelly Bado is a well-known figure in the French-speaking music scene.
