Western Force Bolsters Super W Squad with Two New Signings
The Western Force has attraversiadded (a)]confirmed their 32-player squad for the upcoming Super Rugby Women’s season, rounding out the group with two notable additions: Samantha Treherne and Taylor Waterson.
Samantha Treherne, a former Wallaroo and Australia Sevens outside back, brings versatility and international experience to the Force lineup. The 31-year-old, who primarily plays as a winger or full-back, has clocked up 14 international caps for the Wallaroos and spent last season with the Melbourne Rebels in Super W.
Taylor Waterson, a homegrown back-rower, returns to the Force after being a part of the 2018 and 2019 squads. Known for scoring a try against the Queensland Reds in 2018, Waterson has spent the past few years honing her skills in New Zealand, including a stint with Manawatu Cyclones in the Farah Palmer Cup.
These two signings join an already talented and experienced group, including Wallaroos Ashley Marsters, Cecilia Smith, Allana Sikimeti, and Sera Naiqama, as well as Japanese pair Mio Yamanaka and Megumi Takagi, who will join the squad following this Sunday’s Japan Women’s League One Grand Final.
Head coach Dylan Parsons expressed his excitement about the squad’s composition, "We’ve aimed to retain our successful players from last season and recruit top talent in Australia for identified positions, and we believe we’ve achieved that."
Speaking about the new additions, Parsons said, "Sam [Treherne] brings quality, experience, and skill to our side, and her international experience in 15s and sevens rugby will be invaluable. Taylor [Waterson] has impressed us with her attitude and commitment, and we see great potential in her."
The Force’s Super W season begins on March 1 against the ACT Brumbies at HBF Park. Before then, the side will face Rugby Victoria (Feb 9), the Queensland Reds (Feb 15), and the NSW Waratahs (Feb 22) in pre-season trial games.
