Google Messages Gains New Security Features to Combat Scams
Google Messages is rolling out two new features aimed at protecting users from scams and phishing attempts: Link Blocking and Key Verifier.
Link Blocking: This feature proactively scans links within messages. If a link is deemed possibly harmful, Google Messages will block you from visiting the website and display a warning. Users have the option to mark the message as “not spam” if they believe the block is incorrect. This feature is available globally.
Key Verifier: This tool, previewed in May, helps users verify the identity of contacts to prevent impersonation scams. It utilizes public encryption keys, often presented as a QR code, to confirm the sender’s authenticity.
