The History of Saturday Halloweens

Before the 2026 calendar shift, the holiday last fell on a Saturday six years ago in 2020. Calendarific shows prior Saturday occurrences in 2015 and 2009. For a long time, the Halloween & Costume Association has campaigned to move the holiday to the final Saturday of October; they collected almost 160,000 signatures for a 2018 petition, then pivoted in 2019 to promoting an extra day of celebration on that Saturday, known as National Trick or Treat Day.

The Long Wait Until the Next Saturday Halloween

Due to the mechanics of leap years, the weekday for the holiday will change during 2028, 2032, and 2036, resulting in an 11-year gap where it will not fall on a Saturday. Following the 2026 celebration, the holiday will not land on a Saturday again until 2037.
