Habitat for Humanity ReStore locations accept donations of new and gently used items including appliances, building materials, doors, flooring, furniture, hardware, and home décor from individuals and businesses to support affordable housing initiatives.
Each ReStore operates as a retail outlet selling donated goods, with proceeds funding local Habitat for Humanity home construction and repair projects. The Columbus Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore, located at 3520 River Road, specifies that acceptable donations include furniture, household goods, appliances, building materials, surplus windows, doors, fixtures, and salvaged items from tear-down or remodel projects, as well as brand-new merchandise donated by local businesses.
Donations can be scheduled for pickup or dropped off during public hours. The Columbus Area ReStore is open to the public for donations and shopping on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. To 5:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 1 p.m. To 5:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m., with Mondays closed. Donors are advised to place items outside their homes for pickup, as ReStore employees do not enter residences for safety reasons.
Victoria, Texas, outlines similar guidelines for its large item and at-your-door service, accepting furniture such as bookshelves, chairs, coffee tables, mattresses, recliners, and sofas, along with large appliances without Freon like dishwashers, hot water heaters, microwaves, ovens, and washers/dryers. Minor construction debris under two cubic yards, including fencing planks, flooring, house siding, and sheetrock, is also permitted, provided materials are non-toxic and asbestos-free.
Items containing Freon, such as refrigerators or air conditioning units, must have refrigerant professionally removed prior to collection, with a visible sticker required for curb pickup. The city’s program excludes pharmaceuticals, medications, aerosols, automotive batteries, computer monitors, latex and oil-based paints, metal polish, poisons, sharps, solvents, televisions, thermometers, and used motor oil from acceptance.
Habitat for Humanity ReStores nationwide rely on donor contributions to maintain inventory, which changes daily due to continuous intake and sales. The organization emphasizes that every dollar spent at a ReStore directly supports its mission of building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
By diverting usable goods from landfills and offering affordable alternatives to new products, ReStores promote environmental sustainability while generating revenue for community housing programs. Local businesses often contribute overstock or discontinued items, further expanding the range of available goods.
As of April 24, 2026, Habitat for Humanity continues to welcome both donors and do-it-yourselfers to its ReStore locations, reinforcing a circular economy model that aligns retail operations with social impact goals.
