What kind of ointment should I use for herpes?
If it is a herpes infection, apply an antiviral ointment.
Herpes is an infectious disease caused by the herpes virus (HSV). It is a disease that mainly causes small blisters (vesicles) on the lips, face, and genitals, and is classified into types 1 and 2 depending on the location of occurrence. If symptoms occur on the lips, nose, or oral mucosa, it can be considered herpes type 1 (HSV-1), and if symptoms occur on the genitals, genitals, or anus, it can be considered herpes type 2 (HSV-2).
Herpes infection is a viral disease, so antiviral medications are effective. Herpes lesions are treated by applying an antiviral ointment containing acyclovir. Ointment containing acyclovir acts by penetrating the DNA of the herpes virus that causes shingles (blisters) and inhibiting the synthesis of the virus’ DNA.Therefore, apply it at the beginning of the symptoms (within 3 days of the onset of symptoms). Since the antiviral ointment does not have a long-lasting effect, it is effective to apply it frequently up to 5 times a day at 4-hour intervals.
If the blisters have already burst and pus or inflammation has occurred, applying an antibiotic ointment containing mupirocin (Esroban, Bearoban, Bactroban, etc.) can prevent secondary infection.
