New Ballroom Construction
Donald Trump unveiled plans for a large ballroom addition to the White House, described as the most significant transformation of the building since his return to office in January. He stated the project will be entirely funded by private donations.
According to Trump, the ballroom will be capable of hosting 1,000 people, including a presidential inauguration ceremony, and will feature four walls of bulletproof glass. The construction is currently underway in the East Room.
A reported $22 million for the project came from a deal with YouTube in September, following the platform’s suspension of Trump’s account after the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol as reported by DHnet.
Proposed “Trump arch” Monument
Beyond the White House renovations, Trump also showcased plans for a monumental arch near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. He presented a scale model of the proposed structure, which has been nicknamed “Trump Arch” following initial photo releases by Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Trump indicated the arch could be larger in scale than the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, stating, “It will be really beautiful.”
Previous White House Changes
The ballroom and arch proposals follow other aesthetic changes Trump has implemented at the White House, including adding gold decorations to the Oval Office and transforming the Rose Garden into a patio.
