Instagram iPad App: Meta Reportedly developing Long-Awaited Version
Updated May 31, 2025
Meta, owner of Instagram, is reportedly working on a dedicated Instagram iPad app. This follows years of requests from users who have had to use a scaled-up version of the iPhone app on their tablets.
The recent release of a full-fledged WhatsApp iPad app has further fueled speculation and anticipation for an optimized Instagram experience on Apple’s tablets. The WhatsApp app allows users to link their accounts and access all the features available on their smartphones.
Currently, the Instagram app on iPad is essentially a blown-up version of the iPhone app, lacking a proper tablet interface. However, Instagram already offers a dedicated tablet interface for Android devices, featuring a streamlined layout with navigation icons on the left side of the screen.

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, has previously addressed the demand for an iPad app, citing prioritization of other projects due to limited resources. In 2022, Mosseri said the number of iPad users wasn’t large enough to make it a priority.
However, according to The Information, the potential ban or forced sale of TikTok in the U.S. may have prompted Meta to reconsider its stance. With TikTok’s future uncertain, Instagram aims to capture potential defectors, and a dedicated iPad app could be a key factor in attracting those users.
Yup, we get this one a lot. It’s still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority. Hoping to get to it at some point, but right now we’re vrey heads down on other things.
